We were recently called out to a commercial property experiencing drainage problems, with water not flowing as it should.
After carrying out a drainage investigation, we located and cleared the blockage, getting the commercial drainage system flowing freely again.
But we didn’t just pack the kit away and say, “That’ll do!”
Once the blockage had been cleared, we carried out drain dye testing to make sure the water was travelling through the drainage system correctly and reaching the intended outlet.

Drain dye testing is a useful way of confirming that water is actually making its way through the system correctly. It can also help identify potential issues such as incorrect drainage connections, drain leaks or water discharging somewhere it shouldn’t.
For commercial properties, getting a blocked drain cleared is only part of the job. Making sure the drainage system is functioning properly afterwards is just as important.

We were recently called out to a catchpit that had become completely full of silt, sludge and debris, leaving very little room for the drainage system to do its job.
A full catchpit can quickly become a problem. When the pit fills up, debris and sediment can begin making their way into the connecting pipework, restricting flow and potentially causing blocked drains, drains backing up and other unwanted drainage issues.
This one definitely needed some attention!
We got to work using a wet vac to empty and clean the catchpit, removing the accumulated material and ensuring the surrounding pipework was clear and able to flow freely.
The result? A clean catchpit and unrestricted drainage flow.
We also advised the customer that this catchpit should ideally be emptied and maintained every 3–6 months, depending on how quickly it fills.

We were called out to another blocked drain that had been causing problems for quite some time.
The drain was extremely full and had been repeatedly struggling to cope, resulting in slow drainage, drains backing up and some seriously unpleasant drain smells!
Let’s just say… it wasn’t exactly the kind of smell you want greeting you when you walk through the door!
After carrying out a drainage investigation, we got to work clearing the blockage and removing the build-up that had accumulated within the drainage system.
Once the blocked drain was cleared, the water was flowing freely again and the unpleasant smells were finally shown the door!

Recurring drain blockages and bad drain smells shouldn’t be ignored. They can be signs that there’s more going on inside the pipework than just a one-off blockage.
If your drain is constantly slow, backing up, gurgling or smelling worse than it should, it’s usually better to investigate the problem before it turns into a much bigger headache.

We were recently called out to a blocked drain that was causing ongoing issues.
Rather than simply clearing the blockage and hoping for the best, we carried out a proper drainage investigation to find out what was actually causing the problem.

During the CCTV drainage survey, we discovered a significant amount of silt and debris entering the drainage system from the washing machine connection.
It seems the washing machine had been sending more than just dirty laundry down the line!
Over time, the build-up had accumulated within the pipework, restricting the flow and eventually contributing to the drain blockage.
We used high pressure water jetting to thoroughly clean the affected section of pipework and restore the drainage flow.

This is a great example of why CCTV drainage surveys are so useful. Clearing a blockage is one thing — understanding why it happened in the first place can help prevent the same problem from coming back.

Another nasty blockage successfully cleared for a customer!
We attended a property where the gully was completely blocked and overflowing with foul waste and tissues, causing wastewater to back up and spill over around the gully.
After clearing the blockage, we were able to get everything flowing freely again and leave the drainage system operating as it should.
Still got old clay gullies? It could be worth considering an upgrade.
Older clay gullies are typically fitted with a trapped design, which means that when there is an issue beyond the trap, it can prevent us from getting our CCTV camera through to properly inspect the pipework.
This is where a modern rodable gully can make a big difference.
By replacing an old clay gully with a rodable gully, you give yourself much better access to the drainage system. If a blockage occurs further down the line, we have an additional access point to work from — making it easier to rod, clear and investigate the drain when needed.
It might seem like a small upgrade, but having that extra access can make a huge difference when dealing with future blockages or drainage problems.
Good drainage isn’t just about clearing a blockage — it’s about making sure your system is accessible and maintainable for the future.
