We were recently called out to a catchpit that had become completely full of silt, sludge and debris, leaving very little room for the drainage system to do its job.
A full catchpit can quickly become a problem. When the pit fills up, debris and sediment can begin making their way into the connecting pipework, restricting flow and potentially causing blocked drains, drains backing up and other unwanted drainage issues.
This one definitely needed some attention!
We got to work using a wet vac to empty and clean the catchpit, removing the accumulated material and ensuring the surrounding pipework was clear and able to flow freely.
The result? A clean catchpit and unrestricted drainage flow.
We also advised the customer that this catchpit should ideally be emptied and maintained every 3–6 months, depending on how quickly it fills.
Regular catchpit maintenance can help:
Prevent blockages
Keep pipework flowing freely
Reduce the risk of overflowing
Prevent silt and debris entering the drainage system
Avoid unexpected and potentially costly drainage problems
A little preventative drainage maintenance can go a long way when it comes to keeping your system working properly.
Don’t wait until your catchpit is overflowing to give it some attention. Keeping it regularly emptied is far easier than dealing with a blocked drainage system later on.
If you have a catchpit, interceptor, soakaway or drainage system that needs cleaning or regular maintenance, get in touch.
